| Liz fell in love with art when she was just a young girl. Painting and drawing were her favorite activities when she announced to her parents at the age of 4 that she was going to be an artist. At 12, her father gave Liz her first camera. This was the beginning of a life long dedication to the art of photography. Liz began her official study of photography in high school at Philips Academy Andover, where the arts were an integral part of the curriculum. It was at Andover that Liz first began to see that a life and career in the arts could be a reality. She continued her art education at the University Of Michigan, and received her BFA in photography in 1992 under the tutelage of Kenneth Baird and Joanne Leonard. At the U of M, she began to grow her interest in digital media when Photoshop was beta tested in the Art School. After leaving Ann Arbor in 1992, Liz went to San Francisco to pursue a career in photography. In the years since her move to California, Liz has pursued careers in both fine art and commercial photography. She has many artistic affiliations including membership in the Advertising Photographers of America (APA), Photo Alliance, and founding membership in the Bay Area Photographer’s Collective (BAPC). Additionally, she has participated in San Francisco Open Studios, APA charity auctions, and artwork donations to San Francisco’s Art 4 Aids. While running her own photo and digital business as well as raising two children, Liz has also maintained participation in both national and international gallery showings. In 2010 she had a solo show at Rayko Gallery in San Francisco after her 3-month residency there. She is presently preparing for her largest solo show to date opening June 24, 2011 at Grinnell College in Iowa. Participation in group shows has taken her work to Barcelona, Japan, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Colorado, The United Arab Emirates, and New York. In 2002 Liz published a hardcover photography book examining fly fishing guides of the American West. CASTWORK contains over 150 black and white documentary images of this unique group of people. In 2005, Liz completed her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. At SFAI, she received the prestigious John Collier Award of Excellence in Photography for her Masters thesis project. After completing her graduate studies, Liz dedicated her work fully to art practice and teaching. She is now teaching at the San Francisco Art Institute, consulting, and making art. Liz specializes in Digital Photography, Digital Montage, and Digital Output, and lives in Marin County, California with her husband and two children.
